THE GIN GAME

by D.L. Coburn

October 15-16-17-18-19

River City Repertory Theatre opens its ninth season with the winner of the 1978 Pulitzer Prize, "THE GIN GAME" which stars Margaret Avery, a 1985 Academy Award nominee for Best Supporting Actress for her iconic role as Shug Avery in Steven Spielberg's "The Color Purple." Ms. Avery is currently starring in BET's "Being Mary Jane" and was previously seen in The Rep's "The Member of the Wedding." Richard Folmer, a local audience favorite who has been seen in The Rep's "Moonlight and Magnolias," "TheSubject Was Roses," "The Night of the Iguana" and "The Tale of the Allergist's Wife,"  co-stars.

The show examines the growing relationship between two elderly people in an assisted living situation who come together over a game of cards. They discover they both dislike the home but enjoy gin rummy. Their lives and their past open up revealing intimate details which they use as secret weapons against each other. Slowly, they forge a friendship during their daily recreational activity, a metaphor for the twists and turns of life.

THE GOAT

OR WHO IS SYLVIA?

April 15-16-17-18-19

Edward Albee's Tony Award winning drama for Best Play, THE GOAT, or WHO IS SYLVIA?is as challenging and outrageously funny as theatre gets. THE GOAT examines the irrational, confounding and conventional-thwarting nature of love. Who amongst us has the right to judge the source of love? THE GOAT  reunites the team that brought local audiences the acclaimed "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?----Patric McWilliams, Susan Kirton and Logan Sledge directed by Robert Buseick.
